‍Try this month-by-month plan for your family in 2025

Has your family made any New Year’s resolutions? You’re not alone. Millions of people make well-intentioned resolutions for the new year. It’s a great time to look ahead, an opportunity to start fresh. But rather than making resolutions, we at TruPlay Games want to suggest a month-by-month plan: twelve ways to help parents and kids to thrive in 2025.

January: Write a family mission statement

Ask each other, “what should our family’s mission be in 2025?” Craft it together, write it down, and post it on the fridge or family bulletin board.

February: Give something away

Every day this month (or once a week if that’s too challenging), give something away. It could be money, but it doesn’t have to be. A smile, a compliment, or a helping hand will do just fine.

March: Forgive something

Maybe a debt. Or an unkind comment someone made to you. Or give up on a grudge.

April: Resurrect something

April 20 is Easter Sunday, so make this a month when your family resurrects a forgotten tradition, a long-neglected habit, or an overgrown garden..

May: Give the shirt off your back(s)

You know all those clothes you never wear anymore? Get them out of your closet and give them to The Salvation Army, Goodwill Industries, or similar cause.

June: Meet a neighbor

If you don’t know your neighbors--or haven’t talked to them for a long time--take a plate of cookies or a greeting card as a gesture of friendliness. Especially if they’re new to the neighborhood.

July: Pray for strangers

Help each other cultivate the habit of praying for people in line at the grocery store, for mourners in a funeral procession, for ambulance passengers, etc.

August: Buy an extra

Buy an extra of something to give away. When you buy a cup of coffee or a drive-thru meal, buy an extra to give away to someone.

September: Leave a big tip

Leave a more-than-generous tip. A surprisingly generous tip can brighten the day for an overworked waitress, cab driver, hairdresser, etc.

October: Pick up and clean up

Make it a family project to pick up litter along a road you often travel, or in a parking lot you frequent. Or rake leaves for a neighbor.

November: Lift someone’s loneliness

Write a card or letter to a missionary, student who’s away at college, or U.S. military personnel serving overseas (via www.supportourtroops.org).

December: Volunteer as a family

Register to ring bells for The Salvation Army (www.registertoring.com) or fill an Operation Christmas Child shoebox (via www.samaritanspurse.org).
